In this presentaton, I will first describe our real-time stereo face tracking and gaze detection system to measure head pose and gaze direction simultaneously. The key aspect of our system is the use of real-time stereo vision together with a simple algorithm which is suitable for real-time processing, and we achieved a non-contact, passive, real-time, robust, accurate and compact measurement system for head pose and gaze direction. Then as an application of the measurement system, the wheelchair system which have an intuitive interface using head and gaze motion of a user. The user needs only to look where he/she want to go, and can start and stop by nodding and shaking his/her head. The system also estimates whether the user is concentrated on the operation based on the relationship between the head and gaze movement. The feasibility of the developed wheelchair system is confirmed through experiments in both indoor and outdoor environments.
