Emotions play a crucial role in our individual and social functioning. People interacting with
machines are prone to apply there interactional patterns which are normally present in
interpersonal contacts, including emotional behaviour. Is it possible or feasible to teach
machines to understand our emotionality? How can machines detect and analyse our affecive states?
Should we teach machines to "experience" and "express" their own emotions? Along with an attempt
to answer these questions, some examples emotional speech, face animation, and related software
tools will be briefly presented.
