Vision is particularly important for many reasons, and
due to its property of encoding both "where" and "what"
in an explicit manner it should be a powerful sensing
modality also for robots. However, todays technology
have not benefitted fully from vision, since many
methodological problems remain unsolved or require
computations beyond what can be done in realtime today.
In the talk I will discuss some of these problems.
I will also give an overview of our longterm study of
principles and techniques for an active seeing agent.
including a review of some of our results during the past
years on on early vision, gaze control, attention, cue
integration, and how it fits together in this context.
