New experimental evidence on the temporal coordination of grammatical and
phonological encoding processes during noun phrase production will be presented.
It will be claimed that phonological encoding can be initiated before grammatical
encoding has been completed. A mathematical reaction time model will be presented that
explains these findings. Furthermore, the advantages of mathematical reaction time
models over other ways to simulate reactin time data, e.g. connectionist models
of speech production will be discussed.
